1) Guardians of the galaxy vol 2
This is simply at the top of the list because the first Guardians of the galaxy was the most fun I’ve had in a cinema ever and by the looks of the trailer they’ve one-upped themselves this time. James Gunn is back at the helm with the regular motley crew of phenomenal actors and a few new additions, for example, Kurt ‘freaking’ Russell and Sylvester Stallone. We are now at the business end of the MCU edging closer and closer to the Infinity War finale, the prospect of light being shed on the unknowns within the rest of the MCU is aways another reason to be excited.
2) Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi
How can you not be excited for a sequel to the highest grossing film of all time? The stage has been perfectly set by The Force Awakens and I would not be surprised if the sequel made, even more, money. So many mysteries have been left from The Force Awakens that leave me very intrigued for The Last Jedi even if the name is generic and underwhelming. I have faith that Rian Johnson will create such a different and exciting atmosphere for this next movie and I can’t wait.
3) Spider-man: Homecoming
After seeing Tom Holland as Spidey in Civil War last year I knew that without a doubt this guy can perform and will along with Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as Tony Stark put on one hell of a show. Michael Keaton will be taking on the role of the legendary Spider-man villain The Vulture which is also extremely exciting for any kid who loved Spider-man growing up.
4) T2: Trainspotting
If you’ve seen my about page you know that Trainspotting is my third favourite movie of all time and I have been pitching sequels to this movie to my friends and family ever since I first saw it. This is insanely exciting especially with Danny Boyle and the original cast all on board, of course, there is the fear they’ve left it too long like a certain Alien film that came out last summer but I have faith in Boyle that he can do it right.
Just from the look of the trailer you can’t help but get excited for the last installment in Wolverine’s story they’re clearly taking a completely different direction with this final film creating a worthwhile, gritty, R- rated character piece instead of another CGI mess.
6) Baby Driver
I haven’t even seen an official poster for this film yet never mind about a trailer and I still can’t wait to see this movie. Why you might ask because it is Edgar Wright’s return to the director’s chair since the Ant-Man fiasco and it sounds fantastic. Edgar Wright, the director of The Cornetto Trilogy and Scott Pilgrim Vs The World directing a heist movie with John Hamm and Kevin Spacey, just take my money now.
7) Kong skull island
Go watch the trailer if you are confused why this is on my list, it looks awesome a star-studded cast and a new vision of that big loveable ape we adore so much. The other reason this film is on my list is due to the fact it has a completely different narrative to the basic King Kong story, he will not die at the end because we already know there’s a plan for a Kong Vs Godzilla movie in the works and that’s very exciting.
8) The God Particle
How can you not be completely engrossed with The Cloverfield films? They are creating this weird a wonderful monster-ridden world and I am desperate to see what happens next, later this year. The God Particle is the next chapter where we see a completely part of this jigsaw come to life. Less is more with the Cloverfield franchise as we have seen, the less they tell us the more we are desperate to know, fingers crossed it lives up to expectations whatever the expectations are.
9) Alien: covenant
Wahoo, Ridley Scott is back with an Alien film with actual Aliens in it, I’m sold. Ridley Scott is hands down one of if not the best Sci-fi director of all time and from the look of the trailer Scott is creating a gory R-rated sci-fi horror and I’m 100% on bored, Prometheus was a simple anomaly in the system let’s move on to greener pastures with Alien: Covenant.
10) Free Fire
Free Fire rounds off the list because it seems to have the recipe for best film of the year, relatively new but talented director in Ben Wheatley, an intriguing plot involving a shootout between two gangs and a cast full to the brim with acting talent. Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, and oscar winner Brie Larson all play leads in this action, crime, comedy, also the production company A24 are behind it, meaning it must be pretty awesome.
Honorary Mentions- The Lego Batman Movie, Power Rangers and The Mummy
